Depart Nairobi in the morning and head around 60 kilometers north, stopping for views over the Great Rift Valley. Proceed down the escarpment, which is the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley, onto the floor of this great gorge and head toward Mount Longonot, just south of Lake Naivasha. You start the hike from the main gate of the National Park, hiking vertically up the dormant volcano, rising over 630 metres to the rim of the crater at 2776 metres above sea level.
