Itinerary
Day 1: Monday – Arrival & Introduction to the Program
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will be met by your local coordinator and fellow volunteers. After a warm welcome, you'll have an orientation session covering cultural etiquette, safety tips, and an overview of the project expectations. If time permits, enjoy a brief city tour of Nairobi to get acquainted with the surroundings. You will then head to your volunteer accommodation where you will spend the night, preparing for the activities of the next day.
Day 2: Tuesday – Medical Volunteering Begins
After a hearty breakfast, you will transfer to your assigned health center or mobile clinic to begin your medical volunteer work. Your activities will include assisting with checkups, patient intake, basic medical procedures, health education, or shadowing professional healthcare workers. A lunch break will provide some rest before continuing with the volunteer work in the afternoon. You’ll return to your accommodation in the evening for a debrief session, followed by dinner and some well-deserved rest.
Day 3: Wednesday – Full Day of Volunteering
This day will follow a similar schedule to Day 2, with opportunities to rotate through various departments, such as maternity, outpatient, and pharmacy, depending on your interests and skills. You’ll continue to support healthcare professionals and engage with the community, assisting in different aspects of patient care and learning. In the evening, there may be an optional talk from a local health practitioner, allowing you to gain insights into the Kenyan healthcare system. Afterward, return to the accommodation for the night.
Day 4: Thursday – Outreach or Health Education Day
Today, you’ll have the chance to participate in a medical outreach event or a health education session within schools or communities. Your responsibilities will include helping with record keeping, taking vital signs, dispensing medicines, and educating locals about hygiene, nutrition, and preventive health practices. This is an impactful day where you’ll see the direct benefits of your work in the community. Afterward, return to your accommodation for dinner and reflect on the difference made.
Day 5: Friday – Final Volunteering Day & Cultural Exchange
Your final volunteering day will be spent at the health center, wrapping up your duties, saying goodbye to patients and staff, and reflecting on the work you have done. In the afternoon, you’ll engage in a cultural exchange activity such as a cooking session, bead-making, or learning a traditional local dance. The day will end with a certificate of participation presentation, recognizing your hard work and dedication. The evening is dedicated to preparing for the safari that will begin the following day.
Day 6: Saturday – Nairobi National Park Safari
After an early breakfast, you’ll depart for a day at Nairobi National Park. The safari will include a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch in the park, offering you the chance to see a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and more, all against the backdrop of Nairobi’s city skyline. During the day, you’ll also visit the Ivory Burning Site Monument and the Hippo Pool. After a full day of exploration, you’ll return to Nairobi in the late afternoon. If needed, there will be an optional airport drop-off or you may choose to stay overnight (upon request).
